Welcome to my garden... or the beginnings of my garden. This is my first blog in the journey of creating my version of an English garden.
I didn't have to start completely from scratch, as there was some landscaping already in place when we purchased our New Castle County, Delaware home. Several bushes in front of the house, some day lilies underneath a maple tree, a couple of small red maples in the front yard, and various bulbs that stayed hidden until this past spring.
The first few months I just waited to see what would come up and how big the various plantings were going to get. We did do some major pruning to the large bush on the left since it blocked the window almost entirely. By fall I had realized the hostas would have to be moved. They had more than outgrown their current home beside the sidewalk. Second thing I decided was the two yews blocking the view from the front porch were going to go. Due to a planned drain line that would be going in, we also moved a large group of flags. In fact we had to divide them into three sections as they had grown so large.
Also in the fall when all the plants go on sale, I purchased a miniature pink rose, two dwarf burning bushes, and a pink shrub rose. I also had to add to my "family" of gnomes.
By then the weather was starting to really cool and it was time to bring the houseplants in and winterize everything. It was a good start, though.
